LOLA AKINMADE ÅKERSTRÖM
Lola Akinmade’s photography and travel stories are often characterized by vitality and hope. With a Masters degree in Information Systems from the University of Maryland and a minor in geography. Lola specialized in geographical information systems for 12+ years and her affinity for geosciences and maps meant that she was born to travel.
Her work has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, Travel and Leisure, Slate, Travel Channel, Lonely Planet, Forbes, Fodor’s, AFAR, National Geographic Channel, Adventure Magazine, several in-flight magazines and The New York Times, among others. Several of her articles and images have also been syndicated on MSNBC, Slate, Yahoo, New York Daily News, Chicago Sun Times, Huffington Post, and Time Warner, just to name a few.
Most recently, she received the Bill Muster Award for Travel Photographer of the Year 2018 as well as having the honour of being named as one of The Most Influential People of African Descent within media and culture in 2018.
